“ Biryani origin- from Persia( Iran); birinj means rice, beriyan means to fry or to roast as in the onions and other veggies n spices. What you get is a mixed rice pilaf dish enjoyed for almost 900 years as a tasty combination of rice, cooked meats or potatoes and vegetables and/or eggs with Indian spices. Present day translation: a lovely, healthy and satisfying meal. Welcome to Biryani House in S Hicksville NY. This is a small, unassuming restaurant with a lovely and kind owner whose laid back demeanor is the very opposite of the fantastic food that he and his team prepare and serve. Met a friend here last week. Loved the warm welcome. We picked up the menus and sat down and the owner brought out this complimentary plate of salad with two delicious sauces; the cilantro based green sauce with that lovely kick and the white a la ranch dressing/sauce. We got the fish tikka as an appetizer( photo). Wow! Served piping hot with the delicate and delicious and flavorful, lemony fish seconds out of the Tandoor or oven after being marinated in yogurt and spices. Really good. My pal got the tandoori chicken and loved it. Tender, juicy and melt in the mouth decadent . We ordered the spinach and potato entree requesting mild with no spice and it was exquisite( photo). Perfect duo! The bread, the roti was the best I've had in a long time. Straight out of the oven with the butter on it as you dip it in the spinach dish. Simply gorgeous. Very busy place with huge take out, understandable as this quality of food is supreme. This team keeps it flowing. We got our food in seconds while the simultaneous take out line was three deep and moving. The prices are the best in the area. The menu features some really interesting dishes. Always been open and adventurous when I was working overseas and am fortunate to be able to recreate those great memories locally. Biryani House is open daily from 11 to 11. Parking on Broadway or behind this great establishment. I will definitely be back. ”
